Home
Home is a beautiful concept, especially when you can associate it with many different things. I feel very lucky because of this.
My family lives in Istanbul, while I currently live in London. Many people living abroad struggle with the idea of home. Sometimes they lose the feeling of where it truly is. I understand that feeling, and occasionally I experience it too. But deep in my heart, I know my home is my home. Whenever I go back, the warm welcomes, the hugs, the closeness, and the love we have for each other feel unlike anything else.
At the same time, London is the city where I became an adult. I moved here when I was 19. I was very young, and the transition felt easier because I came here with a group of friends. I didn’t have to face the loneliness and confusion that can come with moving somewhere completely new. Over time, I built friendships here that now feel like family.
Home is also the place where I live currently in London. I love my house and the way I feel when I’m in it. I have been living here since the beginning of my PhD, and somehow it feels like this house has brought me luck.
Of course, I love travelling too, which is something I definitely want to do more. Exploring new places can bring a new perspective. But travelling feels even more special when you have a safe place to return to.
And for me, there is another layer of home: my partner. I love being around him. Time flows so smoothly when we are together, and he brings me peace. That is why he is my heart’s home.
